The first exam will be also be the first CS 225 computerized exam. As such, we’re still figuring out some of the policies. Thank you for your patience with this. We think it will be awesome, once we get it all ironed out! Please post all questions about the exam to Piazza. We will answer what we can!

Here’s what you can expect:

Grading

Your performance on this assessment cannot hurt your grade in the course. You will receive AT LEAST one point of credit (as if you had attended the lab and received full marks), and, since you can also do the regularly scheduled lab for this week, it’s truly extra-extra credit. We anticipate that future exams will be 15% each, and there will be 3 of them through the course of the semester. This may change, depending on this pilot.

Time & Place

All exams (except for DRES) will be taking place in Siebel Center 0224, which is the regular (non-laptop) lab room.

Entrance to the exam will be through the main entrance to Siebel 0224, and exit will be through 0226. You must have ID to take the exam, preferably your i-card. We will provide scratch paper that you must return at the end of the exam.

Except for AYB (Wednesday night), students in the regular section will take the exam during the first hour of their normal lab time; students; students in the laptop section will take the exam during the second hour of the lab time. AYB starts at 8pm instead of 7pm.

A detailed schedule can be found at the bottom of this page.

Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your exam period so you can start precisely on time. We will be insistent that you stop after 50 minutes, so please be aware of the time.

Format

This assessment will be fairly short: 8 multiple choice and 2 coding problems. It will be designed to take 50 minutes.

Policies

Practice Exams

Here are the previous first exams; keep in mind that: (1) these are relatively old questions, written for paper exams; (2) this assessment is happening slightly earlier than previous semesters, so there may be content on the practice exams that has not yet been covered in lecture; and (3) most of the practice exams were taken during a 3-hour period.

Conflicts Requests

To request the conflict, email Thierry Ramais with “CONFLICT” in the subject line. Please include the following information:

Please note, though, that very few conflicts will be granted. All requests must be received by Wednesday, February 10th at 3pm.
